Apple's standard licence already covers this app. Unless a developer supplies their own, every App Store app is licensed under Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, and that is the agreement between you and the developer of Dane. This page adds nothing legally novel; it says in plain words what that licence means here.
What you get
A personal, non-transferable licence to use Dane on Apple devices you own or control, for as long as you like. There is no subscription, no account and no expiry.
Your content is yours
Everything you put into Dane — photographs, video, recordings, notes — remains entirely yours. The developer claims no rights over it, receives no copy of it, and has no ability to access it. See the Privacy Policy.
What you are responsible for
- Your iCloud account. Dane stores your diary there. Keeping that account secure and in good standing is yours to do.
- Who you invite. Anyone you invite to your diary can see everything in it and can keep a complete copy on their own device. Invite people accordingly.
- Photographs of other people's children. If you capture someone else's child, the ordinary courtesies and laws of where you live apply. The app cannot know and does not ask.
- Your own backups. Dane writes a complete, readable archive to your iCloud
Drive and can export a
.zipat any time, precisely so that you are not dependent on the app or on its developer. Using that is your safeguard, and it is strongly recommended.
What is not promised
Dane is provided as-is. It is a small app written by one person for his own family and shared with others. It carries no warranty, no guaranteed uptime — it has no servers to keep up — and no commitment to future updates, though it is looked after.
To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for lost data, lost time or consequential loss arising from use of the app. The archive in your iCloud Drive exists so that a failure of the app is not a failure of your memories: it is written before the app's own database, in ordinary files, on every capture.
Acceptable use
Do not use Dane to store unlawful material, and do not attempt to use an invitation link you were not given. Invitations are addressed to specific people and grant nothing to anyone else.
Ending it
Delete the app whenever you like. Your archive in iCloud Drive stays until you delete that too. The developer may stop distributing Dane at any time; that would not remove the app from your device, and it would not touch a single file in your archive.
